Autism Unlimited recognised with two nominations at the National Learning Disabilities & Autism Awards 2026
Autism Unlimited is proud to have been recognised with two nominations at this year’s National Learning Disabilities & Autism Awards, celebrating the dedication, expertise and impact of our teams and the people we work alongside.
The awards, held earlier this month, bring together organisations and individuals from across the country who are committed to improving opportunities, inclusion and quality of life for autistic people and people with learning disabilities. Although we did not take home the final awards, being shortlisted is a significant achievement and reflects the strength of our practice and the passion of our staff.
Great Autism Practice Award - Futures Team
We were delighted to see our Futures team nominated for the Great Autism Practice award, recognising their outstanding work.
Futures is Autism Unlimited’s specialist service supporting autistic young people and adults to build confidence, develop practical skills and move towards greater independence. The team’s work is rooted in understanding each person’s strengths, interests and aspirations, creating opportunities that feel meaningful and achievable.
From developing life skills and supporting transitions, to building confidence in community settings, the Futures team champions a person‑led approach that celebrates individuality and promotes long‑term independence. Their nomination reflects the impact they have every day, not only on the people they support, but also on families who see their loved ones gaining confidence and autonomy.
Futures Manager, Tilly Lament had the following to say about the nomination:
“Being nominated for the NDLA Award was a really special moment for Futures and a wonderful recognition of the incredible work our team does every day. Although we didn’t take home the award, being shortlisted amongst such inspiring organisations and provisions was a huge achievement and something we are incredibly proud of.
Our team are passionate, dedicated and constantly go above and beyond to support our young people, helping them develop skills, confidence and independence as they prepare for adulthood. The nomination is a celebration of the creativity, commitment and teamwork that sits at the heart of Futures.
It is also a great opportunity to share and celebrate the amazing work that often happens behind the scenes. I couldn’t be prouder of the team and everything they achieve together”
Frontline Leader Award - Carla Hurst, Locality Manager, Adult Services
Our second nomination was for Frontline Leader Award recognising Carla Hurst, Locality Manager within our Adult Services.
Carla is an exceptional leader whose commitment to person‑centred support is felt every day by the people she works alongside. Her approach is grounded in dignity, independence and meaningful choice, values that sit at the heart of Autism Unlimited.
Carla’s nomination follows her recent recognition at the Dorset Care Awards, where she was named a finalist for Outstanding Leadership in Care. Her leadership style is defined by authenticity, compassion and a willingness to step into the day‑to‑day realities of the service. She empowers her team through coaching, creativity and a deep understanding of what good support looks like for each individual.
Her nomination at the National Learning Disabilities & Autism Awards highlights the positive difference she makes to autistic adults, families and colleagues across our services.
These nominations are a powerful acknowledgement of the dedication shown by our staff and the progress made by the people we support. They highlight the importance of high‑quality, person‑centred practice and the difference it makes when autistic people are supported to lead the lives they choose.
We are incredibly proud of Carla, the Futures team, and everyone across Autism Unlimited who contributes to creating opportunities, removing barriers and championing inclusion.
