Welcome to Discovery Hub: Assessments for young minds.
Autism Unlimited are proud to be able to provide an autism assessment service that will offers families a route to diagnosis for their school-aged children (5 years and older).
The Discovery Hub provides expert-led, multi-disciplinary autism assessments, ensuring families receive timely, accurate, and supportive diagnoses.
Our assessments are:
- Led by experts – Our team includes Clinical Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, and Occupational Therapists.
- Comprehensive & evidence-based – Following NICE guidelines, we use structured assessments, school observations, and developmental history reviews.
- Designed for clarity – Every family receives a full diagnostic report and personalised recommendations.
Why early diagnosis matters: An early and accurate diagnosis opens doors to the right support at school, home, and in the community, improving long-term outcomes.
Our autism assessment service will include the following steps:
Initial Telephone Consultation: 30 minute telephone call to establish if the needs of the child as described by their parent are likely to result in a positive diagnosis. This reduces the likelihood of parents going through the assessment process to discover that their child does not have autism and ensures we signpost families to other relevant services if this would be more beneficial. During the consultation, you will be advised as to whether you need to book a comprehensive assessment.
Full Assessment:
Please do not book a full assessment until you have had the consultation phone call and been advised to do so.
- School Visit: An observational assessment in order to evaluate the child’s social behaviour within a social and /or learning context which includes familiar peers and adults. This would last approximately 2 hours and include discussion with education staff. An additional 1 hour is allowed travel time.
- Developmental History: A developmental history using the ADI-R would be completed with the parents/primary caregivers. This would last approximately 3.5 hours in include scoring.
- Individual Assessment: The ADOS would be administered by the therapist in a face to face session. 1.5 hours is allocated for this to include scoring. The Social Responsiveness Scale, ADI-R pre-information and teachers report will be sent as questionnaires for parents/teachers to complete independently.
- Liaison: Information would be obtained from other relevant professionals such as the child’s GP, therapists etc. to ensure an holistic picture of their profile.
- Report and Resources: A written report summarizing the findings and providing guidance on next steps, including referrals to therapy services and support groups. A report would take 6 hours to compile including notes and analysis of all assessment results.
- Multi-Disciplinary Team Panel: 1.5 hours per therapist (3 therapist hours in total) to include review of completed report and discussion.
- Feedback Session: A detailed discussion of the assessment results, including a diagnosis if applicable, and personalized recommendations. The feedback session would last 1 hour.
